Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka on Sunday paid a visit to Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho in Cotonou, capital of Benin Republic.
Sunday Igboho was released from detention in March following his arrest last year while he was about boarding a flight with his wife to Germany. Part of his bail conditions says he cannot leave Cotonou.
At the Seme border, Soyinka was mobbed by a crowd while waiting to complete immigration formalities and repeatedly asked where he was headed, his media office said.
Soyinka was quoted to have told them that he was on a visit to Sunday Igboho to “break the Moslem fast with him.”
Although neither Soyinka nor Sunday Igboho is a Muslim, the Nobel laureate further said he was going to sympathise with his predicament.
Ramadan is as good as any other season to express non-denominational solidarity, added the professor.
