Rapper Speed Darlington has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody.
His legal representative Stan Alieke, announced the development in an Instagram Story on Monday, saying, “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” without providing further details.
The rapper was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State.
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju alleged that Afrofusion star Burna Boy was behind the arrest.
Speed Darlington had previously taunted Burna Boy over his association with embattled US rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Darlington questioned how Burna Boy won a Grammy for his album Twice As Tall, claiming the project, executive-produced by Diddy, hinted at a possible sexual relationship between the two.
Alieke had earlier accused the police of denying Darlington access to bail and urged law enforcement not to infringe on his client’s constitutional rights.
This isn’t the first time the rapper has faced detention.
In October, he was arrested in Abuja but was released on bail after five days in custody.
