Controversial rapper Darlington Achakpo, better known as Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom after spending two months in police custody.
The news was confirmed by his lawyer Stan Alieke on Tuesday, who shared the update on Instagram while expressing gratitude to everyone involved in securing the rapper’s release.
“Delighted to announce that our client, Mr. Darlington Achakpo aka Speed Darlington (Akpi), has regained his freedom after two months of illegal incarceration.
“As his legal team, we will explore all legal avenues to ensure justice for the deprivation of his fundamental human rights and the unjust treatment he faced at the hands of the Nigerian Police Force,” the lawyer stated.
The legal representative also acknowledged those who supported the rapper, with special mentions to colleagues including Barr Marshal Abubakar, Barr Deji Adeyanju, Barr Hamza Nuh and Barr David.
Speed Darlington was detained at Kuje prison following accusations of defamation and cyberstalking.
The charges stemmed from comments he made about singer Burna Boy, alleging that the Grammy-winning artiste had an illicit relationship with American music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, which he claimed influenced Burna Boy’s Grammy win.
The rapper intensified the feud with a diss track titled Baby Oil, targeted at Burna Boy.
He was first arrested in October 2024 but was later released.
However, he was rearrested on November 27, 2024, during a performance in Owerri, Imo State.
