Veteran actress Toyin Adegbola, popularly known as Toyin Tomato has urged women to avoid divorce and remain in their marriages even if their husbands are unfaithful.
During an Instagram live session, Toyin argued that true equality does not exist in marriage.
She encouraged women to stay with their “unfaithful” husbands while also advicing them to take measures to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections.
“No matter how difficult or flawed your husband may be, don’t consider leaving him or your marital home. You may later regret it, especially when your children have significant events in their lives.
“As a woman, you have already endured challenges in your marriage, and if you leave, finding a new partner may not be easy. Stay in your husband’s home, but ensure he takes precautions for your safety,” she said.
She went on to share an example, “I have a friend who buys condoms for her husband whenever he visits Nigeria. When he arrived, he called me, surprised by her gesture. The reality is, he will likely be with other women.
“But imagine if it were the other way around—would a husband ever buy condoms for his wife visiting from abroad? There is no equal footing in marriage, and I will continue to stand by this.”
The actress also implored men to view their wives with compassion and care, likening wives to their “first child.”
“Men, please treat us as your cross to bear, and see us as your eldest child. We, too, have taken you as our first child because, despite men’s wisdom, they can sometimes be very foolish. We guide what you perceive and how you act,” she added.
