Student dies, four injured as explosion rocks Abuja school

A yet-to-be-identified student at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyi community of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been killed and four others injured following an explosion on Monday.

The incident reportedly happened around noon sending shockwaves through the community located approximately 42 kilometers from Abuja’s city centre

It was also gathered that emergency and security personnel, including the police bomb disposal squad, arrived at the scene of the explosion.

The injured victims were taken to a hospital.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the police have not yet commented on the incident, and details of the explosion remain unclear.

However, a security source who pleaded anonymity said, “The dead student, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, bore the substance suspected to be IED while it exploded and injured the other students, thereby causing pandemonium in the centre”.

Authorities at the school could not be reached at this time.

The students involved were recently admitted into the school and they resumed on Friday.
