Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria.
His spokesman Olayomi Koiki announced this on Thursday on X with a video of the activist.
Mr Koiki said Sunday Igboho was on his way to Igboho Town for the final burial of his mother S. A. Adeyemo who died in July 2023.
“I can confirm that Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is currently on his way to Igboho Town for the final burial of his mother MRS S.A. Adeyemo.
“The body of MRS S.A Adeyemo was picked up from the mortuary in Saki Town some few hours ago,” Koiki wrote.
Speaking with Premium Times, Sunday Igboho said: “It is true that I am back. I came back on Wednesday purposely for the burial ceremony of my mother. She passed away on 22 July last year and today (Thursday) is her wake-keep. The burial ceremony holds tomorrow in Igboho, after which we will move to Ibadan for the entertainment of guests on Saturday.”
The activist began a campaign to chase alleged killer herdsmen and kidnappers out of the south-west and also called on the Yoruba in the north, south-east and other parts of the country to return home.

He clashed with the Nigerian government in March 2021 when he declared the Yoruba Nation’s sovereignty.
In April, Nigerian forces invaded his home in Ibadan, arresting his men and accusing him of stockpiling arms.
The agitator fled Nigeria and was later arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration unsuccessfully attempted to repatriate him to Nigeria.
However, in October 2023, Sunday Igboho revealed that he was legally free to leave Cotonou. He then travelled to Germany.
When his mother died, the agitator wrote on social media that her death was too much to bear.
