Former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has again spoken in support of Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho, saying the activist speaks for 99 per cent of the Yoruba people.
Sunday Igboho has been at the forefront of calls for criminals among Fulani herdsmen to be sent out of the south-west.
Many have criticised his strategy, saying it breeds ethnic conflict.
However, speaking on a PUNCH Live programme on Tuesday, Mr Fani-Kayode said the activist did not call for the Hausa/Fulani people to leave the region but for criminals among them to leave.
“My understanding in what he (Igboho) did was not to give quit notices to nomads; what he did was to give quit notices to kidnappers, murderers, killers and people who butcher our people in the South-West regularly,” he said.
The former minister said Igboho gave quit notice to those that committed “terrible crimes” who “rape, maim, destroy and kidnap” and “not to Fulanis, Hausas.”
“Make no mistake, Igboho speaks the mind of 99 per cent of Yoruba people. Many will not say this publicly but he does. What I won’t accept and I know this is not his position, is that he should target Hausa-Fulani people in the south-west who have done nothing wrong. It is not about targeting people, I will never be part of that simply because people have the right to live in any part of the country,” Fani-Kayode added.
The ex-minister recently paid Sunday Igboho a visit at his Ibadan residence.
