Police in Oyo have dispelled reports claiming that activist Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho issued fresh ultimatum to herders to leave the south-west.
Some reports said Sunday Igboho spoke through his spokesperson Olayomi Koiki.
The voice in an audio message was quoted as saying, “On July 15, 2024, all Fulani people living in Oke Ogun, living inside the bushes there, who are kidnappers and are killing the people, are immediately ordered to leave now. Sunday Igboho said he would continue his work at Oke-Ogun, in Kishi and all communities that made up Oke-Ogun. He said he would touch all those places remaining.
“All Fulanis should leave the bush in Oke-Ogun. The forest does not belong to you. The land belongs to us.”
However, spokesman of Oyo Police Command Adewale Osifeso, in a statement on Wednesday, said there is no truth in the voice message circulated on social media.
According to the statement, the police noted that the story over the purported eviction of herders at Igboho, Oorelope, Local Government Area of Oyo State by suspected separatist group members, is misleading and complete falsehood.
The statement added that “the viral video which surfaced during the early hours of Tuesday, 16/07/2024 was specifically designed by agents of mischief to disrupt the relative peaceful ambience enjoyed in the State by inciting violence and civil disturbances”.
It further stated that “no notice of eviction was pronounced by any individual or group on anyone at any period in time.”
