Sunday Oliseh is rapidly becoming something of a cult hero in Belgium.
The ex-Super Eagles coach has overseen a massive change of fortune at second-tier Dutch side, Fortuna.
Just last season, the modest team were flirting with relegation but that has changed since Oliseh stepped foot in the Limburg province.
His tactical artistry and man-management skills were pivotal as they finished comfortably above the drop, losing just five times in the second round.
Not resting on his laurels, Oliseh, who himself started off at another Dutch side, Ajax, appears to be breaking new grounds this term.
A 6-0 triumph over then unbeaten Telstar in September is the biggest away victory in the club’s history.
Prior to the defeat to NEC Nijmegen, Fortuna were on a nine-game winning streak at home – the longest ever by the club.
But nothing compares to their current third-place standing on the log with 20 points, just three adrift of table toppers, Ajax II.
What this means is the Nigerian is very much on course to bring top-flight football back to Eredivisie-thirsty Sittard faithful.
But that’s not all; Oliseh is equally delivering the goods in the KNVB Cup.
Being the only trophy Sittard has won, it’s a really precious piece of silverware for the fans.
At least for the time being, they can start fantasising about a third domestic cup following an impressive 3-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles on Tuesday.
For the records, Go Ahead play a level above Fortuna and the fixture was expected to be a stroll in the park for them.
But that didn’t happen. The hosts showed no respect for their guests as Lars Hutten, Mickael Malsa and Wessel Dammers made it an easy sail for them.
More records will certainly be smashed should Oliseh continue his remarkable turnaround at Fortuna.
