Nigeria’s Super Eagles continued their free fall in the monthly FIFA Rankings for July released on Thursday.
The three-time African champions who were one time ranked fourth best team in the world, lost nine places in the recent standings and are now ranked 70th globally with 514 points.
This latest slump means the Eagles are now placed 17th on the continent below the likes of South Africa, Uganda and Cape Verde.
The West African nation who are currently without a substantive manager, failed to qualify for their second consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifying rivals, Algeria, retained their place as the highest ranked team on the continent.
Reigning African champions, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal and Egypt completes the top five on the continent.
Argentina remain number one globally, ahead of Belgium, Colombia, World Cup holders Germany, Copa America champions Chile and Euro 2016 winners Portugal.
New Zealand emerged as the month’s biggest climbers, moving up a whopping 54 places to 93rd while Iceland’s exploits at the 2016 European Championship earned them their best ranking of 75.
