Nigeria’s national football team returned to the country on Tuesday following their exit from the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
The Super Eagles were knocked out by Tunisia on Sunday in the Round of 16.
The team and its officials returned via a chartered flight from Garoua where they played four matches.
They arrived at 1.10 am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where they were received by officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The NFF officials were led by their general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, accompanied by the executive committee members Yusuf Ahmed and Shehu Dikko.
Some members of the supporters club and media personnel also joined the aircraft which later headed to Lagos.
Receiving the players and officials, Sanusi said, “You have tried your best. It was just unfortunate that you failed to reach the final. But, right now, what is left is the unfinished business of qualification for Qatar 2022.
“We should put behind us 2021 AFCON, and start preparing for the final qualifiers.”
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa said the players will now return to their various clubs.
Nigeria will play Ghana in March for a place in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.
