French President, Emmanuel Macron, on Wednesday called on Nigerians to support his country’s football team now that the Super Eagles are out of the FIFA World Cup going on in Russia.
Nigeria crashed out of the competition after suffering a 2-1 loss to Argentina in the final Group D match on Tuesday, June 26.
Les Bleus of France, however, knocked out the Argentines in the round of 16 in an enthralling game that saw teenage star, Kylian Mbappe, scoring twice.
France play Uruguay in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Speaking to a group of sportsmen in Lagos on Wednesday, Macron appealed to Nigerians: “As the Super Eagles are no longer in the competition, please support the French Team in the Football World Cup!”

Many Nigerians have adopted France as their team of choice in the World Cup.
Banky W, who hosted a show at the Afrika Shrine in honour of Macron on Tuesday, thanked the visiting President for “taking revenge” on Argentina on behalf of Nigeria.
“We have all adopted France as the sixth African country at the World Cup,” the singer declared.
