The Supreme Court has nullified the participation of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 elections in Zamfara State, declaring party with second highest votes as winner in the state.
The apex court heard two election appeals seeking to ascertain authentic APC candidates in Zamfara in the 2019 general elections.
APC and Sanusi Dan-Alhaji had instituted the case on the primary election conducted by the party.
Consequently, the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday means that the governorship, National Assembly and state Assembly elective posts had been handed to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Outgoing governor of Zamfara, Abdulazeez Yari, who won the election for Zamfara West Senatorial District, is among those affected by the ruling.
Muktar Idris of APC who had polled 534,541 votes as against PDP’s Bello Mutawalle who polled 189,452 votes will now lose his seat to the PDP candidate.
APC candidates had also won all the constituencies in the state assembly elections. They will now vacate their positions.
