The Supreme Court has upheld the federal government’s interim seizure of another N2.4 billion linked to former first lady, Patience Jonathan, eight days after a similar ruling was made on $8.4million also linked to her.
A Federal High Court in Lagos had on April 26, 2017 ruled that the said money linked to Mrs Jonathan be temporarily held by the federal government.
The ruling was affirmed by the Court of Appeal in Lagos on January 12, 2018, prompting the defendants to appeal to the apex court.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had said that N2,421,953,522.00 was held in bank accounts owned by Lawari Furniture and Bath Limited, an entity in which Jonathan allegedly has interest.
In a ruling by a five-man panel on Friday, the apex court said the appeal argued by Mike Ozekhome for Lawari Furniture and Bath Limited lacked merit.
