Police in Osun said they have arrested one of the suspected abductors of Prof. Olayinka Adegbehingbe, an orthopaedic surgeon at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Adegbehingbe was kidnapped on May 5 on his way to Ile-Ife from Lagos along Ife-Ibadan Expressway.
He was set free the following day after N5.045 million ransom was paid for his release.
The suspect, Usman Ladan, from Sokoto State, was paraded on Tuesday at the command’s headquarters in Osogbo.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige, said Adegbehingbe actually identified the man as one of those who abducted him.
Mr Ige said another of the alleged abductors was arrested while wandering aimlessly in Ikire, while two other suspects were arrested in the Iwo area for other crimes.
The suspects are Samaila Gede from Katsina State; Kemu Rejuli from Niger Republic; and Jubril Mohammed from Katsina State, who were said to have been apprehended with assorted charms.
Mr. Ladan, however, told journalists that he was not involved in the abduction of the OAU professor.
