Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has recommended that a dismissed police inspector accused of killing a football enthusiast, Kolade Johnson, be prosecuted in a high court.
The former inspector, Olalekan Ogunyemi, has been in police custody as directed by an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court pending advice from the DPP.
The DPP advised that Mr Ogunyemi be prosecuted in accordance with Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The second defendant in the case, Godwin Oji, the DPP said, had no case to answer and should be released if still in custody.
During proceedings on Monday, Magistrate A.O. Salawu adjourned the case until August 6 to enable the state to file the case before a high court.
Ogunyemi, who was attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit of Lagos State Police Command, allegedly shot dead Johnson, 36, on March 31 during a raid around a football viewing centre at Onipetesi area of Lagos.
