A manager of Sweet Sensation eatery, Gbenga Amale, and three others have been arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of N29,000 from the eatery.
The 42-year-old was arraigned alongside Ojo Kayo, 38; Kemi Adekile, 27; and Ojo Alajo, 28 with five counts of conspiracy and theft.
They have denied the charges.
Police prosecutor, Rachael Williams, told the court that the defendants allegedly stole N29,000 belonging to Sweet Sensation and converted it to their personal use.
The prosecutor said the offence was committed on April 27 at about 11.20 am at Sweet Sensation located at 3 Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to Williams, the company’s management instructed the chief security officer of the restaurant to arrest Amale who was found with N20,000 on him.
The prosecutor also alleged that N3,500 was recovered from Kayode, N4,000 was recovered from Kemi while Ojo had N1,500 on him.
She said that when the defendants were apprehended, they could not explain how they got hold of the money.
She also said the alleged offences contravened the provisions of sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).
Magistrate O.O. Akingbesote granted them bail of N50,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Akingbesote also ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until May 23 for mention.
