Knarik Gambaryan, mother of Tigran Gambaryan, an executive of Binance Holdings Ltd who is being detained in Nigeria, has urged the Nigerian government to release her son.
Mr Gambaryan, who is Binance USA’s head of financial crime compliance, and the company’s British-Kenyan regional manager for Africa, Nadeem Anjarwalla, are facing money laundering charges to the tune of $35 million brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Gambaryan is currently being held in Kuje correctional facility after Anjarwalla fled the country shortly after their arrest in February.
In a statement on Friday, Knarik urged the Nigerian government to take her in place of her son.
“He’s innocent, that’s all. But I’m asking, and I’m begging everyone who can help my son. Please bring him home. That’s all we need.
“Take me, exchange me for my son; just let him go home! I don’t care what happens to me, just let my son go home!” She said.
While fears have been raised about Gambaryan’s health, the Nigerian Correctional Service assures there is no cause for alarm.
