As part of measures put in place to ensure the success of the state of emergency declared in the education sector in Sokoto, the state government will from next year build special estates, known as teachers’ villages, in various districts across the state.
In addition, monetary and other incentives will be introduced to all teachers posted to rural areas in order to ginger them to give their best for the development of education in Sokoto.
Making this known when during a meeting with former President Shehu Shagari in Sokoto Wednesday, Governor Aminu Tambuwal said government is taking the issue of teacher training serious because they are an important component in the success of his administration’s education policy.
He said various training programmes have been introduced after which the teachers will be evaluated to ascertain their capability to teach.
“Any teacher that fails to meet our requirement will be re-posted to other parts of the public service where his competence will be more needed. Let me make it clear that we will not sack any teacher from government service.
“But where he fails to meet the expectation in our schools, we will have other areas where his service will be needed and we will send the person there accordingly,” Tambuwal said.
The governor added that all aspects of education sector will be given massive lift.
In his remarks, Shagari pledged to assist the government meet its target for the rapid development of education sector in the state.
He said the Sokoto Education Trust Fund, which he heads, has for the past 17 years issued scholarships to some students and executed various projects aimed at empowering women and youths.
Those projects include computer training, provision of special funding to Sokoto indigenes who are studying medicine, veterinary medicine and pharmacy, training of both western styled and Quranic school teachers, operation of skills acquisition centres in various parts of the state, among others.
He solicited the support of the state government in enhancing the activities of the fund.
