Tambuwal visits student with chopped-off hands in hospital

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Tuesday visited a student of Usmanu Danfodio University, Habibu Abubakar, who is receiving treatment in a hospital after his hands were cut off by assailants.

The undergraduate, who is studying English Language, was attacked on Sunday in Nakasari area of Sokoto South local government area.

His attackers cut off his hands before fleeing with his motorcycle.

Tambuwal, represented by his deputy, Manniru Daniya, paid him a visit at the Orthopaedic Hospital, Wamakko, Sokoto.

The governor described the incident as barbaric and assured that the suspects would be arrested.

“The governor mandated me to come and visit you and your family to assure you that efforts are being made to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators,” Daniya said.

He also assured that the state government would cater for the victim’s medical bills.

The victim told journalists that the attackers hit him in the head while one of them used a sharp object to cut off his two hands.

The hospital’s medical director, Dr Nuruddeen Aliyu, said medical examinations and operations would be conducted to refashion the portion that had been cut-off and put prosthesis or artificial limbs if possible.

Sokoto police spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident. He added that investigation was still ongoing.
