Ex-Nigeria international Taribo West is due to hit the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on April 30 with others for a novelty match in honour of Adewale Teluwo, proprietor of the defunct VIP Professionals (Teluwo Babes), a team in the domestic national league in the 1990s.
The match put together by a group of ex-internationals, known as Teluwo Soccer Ambassadors, is being coordinated by Anthony Ajiboye, special adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on sports.
Spokesmen of the group, Victor Eghodosa, said a giant trophy will be presented for an annual competition among leading clubs in Lagos to appreciate the efforts made by Teluwo in promoting football from the grassroots level in the country over the last four decades.
The likes of West, Godwin Okpara, Golden Ajeboh, Festus Odini, Hakeem Ogunlade, Taiwo Enegwa, Sunday Ilevbare, Koya Dosunmu, Bala Garba, Victor Eghodosa, Joseph Eberefe, Segun Fetuga, Lookman Olugbode, Wilson Aki, and Tobi Cottrel among others will trade tackles against former players of Stationery Stores FC of Lagos.
The match is slated for 3 pm.
“I am really excited. The boys are now men and they are all wonderful. This planning has been on for over a year and now, we give God the glory,” Teluwo said.
