The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) resumed its enforcement exercise on Monday by shutting down tax-defaulting companies in Lagos and Imo states.
In Lagos, the premises of Capital Oil Plc, owned by Ifeanyi Ubah, we’re sealed by the FIRS enforcement team, led by Mrs Anita Erinne.
Staff of the company, which is said to owe N30million, were ordered out of the premises.
Management of the company told the enforcement team it was ready to defray its tax liabilities, but FIRS officials said it was not possible because banking hours had elapsed, leaving them with no option than to shut its gates.
Apart from distributing petroleum products, Ubah is the publisher of Authority newspaper and proprietor of FC Ifeanyi Ubah football club.
As a politician, Ubah unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Anambra gubernatorial election under the platform of the Labour Party and was the driver of Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), a multi-billion naira support group for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s failed second term campaign.
