A taxi driver has been jailed for 16 years and 82 days by a Maidstone Crown Court in the United Kingdom for stabbing and strangling his teenage wife to death.
The court heard that Mohammad Qoraishi, 27, killed his wife, Parwin, 19, by hitting her over the head with a frying pan on Christmas Day before throttling and stabbing her 38 times.
Mr Qoraishi committed the crime after his wife refused to return to Hull from Maidstone, Kent, where he had moved to be with her.
The teenager’s body was found by her father who immediately reported the case to the police.
The couple were paternal cousins and grew up in the same house in Afghanistan before he moved out in 2007 to start a new life in the UK.
Parwin joined him later along with some of their family in 2011 and they returned to Afghanistan for their arranged marriage in August 2018.
Parwin’s family insisted that Qoraishi move to Kent after Parwin was accepted to study law at university.
Judge David Griffith-Jones said Qoraishi had ‘frenziedly and senselessly’ murdered his young wife, who would have been a ‘bright light’ at Canterbury Christchurch University.
