Erthswhile Super Eagles defender, Taye Taiwo, has completed a move to Finnish side, Rovaniemi Palloseura (RoPS), on a one-year deal.
The nomad Nigerian’s switch to Rovaniemi is his fourth in three years after spells at HJK Helsinki, Lausanne and AFC Eskilstuna.
Taiwo is aiming to resurrect his crippling career, in which he’s played less than 50 matches since leaving mainstream Europe in 2015.
“Taye is a clear leader and winner on the field. I have known him since our time together with HJK,” RoPS head coach, Toni Koskela, told the club’s official website.
“He is a very physical player and a good football player. Taye has a strong left foot shot, so he will be an excellent match for our special situations as well.”
The 32-year-old stated that his decision to join RoPS was an easy one after he was contacted by Koskela who was the assistant during his time with HJK.
“I was motivated to work with him again,” the ex-AC Milan defender said.
“This is also a real dream job to be a soccer player. You can never know which country you are going to find the next day, and now I can bring my expertise to the Rovaniemi Palloseura.
” I’ve already learned that you can not win every match, but each match can give everything.
”In the field, I do not like to give the opponent room to play, I do not want to give the adversary the pleasure they can control, but I want to be the one who plays and controls.”
The Finnish league resumes in April.
