Taye Taiwo joins seventh foreign club

Erstwhile Super Eagles defender, Taye Taiwo, has moved to Swiss side, FC Lausanne-Sport, from Finnish champions, HJK Helsinki.

Taiwo has had somewhat a nomadic career in Europe which has spanned over a decade playing for Olympique Marseille, AC Milan, Queens Park Rangers, Dinamo Kiev and Bursaspor.

Les Blanc announced the arrival of the 31-year-old on their website on Wednesday.

“FC Lausanne-Sport is proud to announce the arrival of a defensive reinforcement of weight in the person of Taye Taiwo, who spent his medical visit today,” the statement read.

“This powerful defender of 31 years will reinforce the team until the end of the season 2016/2017, coming from the club of HJK Helsinki.

“Before his visit to Finland, the former Nigerian international has spent much of his career with Olympique de Marseille, the team with which he won the French Championship in 2010, before leaving for AC Milan in 2011.’’

Taiwo is expected to make his debut for the team when they welcome Luzern to the Olympique de la Pontaise on February 5.

FC Lausanne-Sport are placed 7th in the Swiss Super League with 18 points from same number of matches.

Taiwo started his career with local side, Gabros (now known as FC IfeanyiUbah), before joining Lobi Stars.

He has made 53 appearances for the Super Eagles scoring three goals.
