Outgoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Abubakar Mahmood (SAN), got teary on Friday morning while delivering his valedictory speech at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The 61-year-old, who was elected as the 28th president of the NBA in 2016, was handing over to Paul Usoro (SAN), who emerged president in a keenly contested election held last week.
While acknowledging the contributions of his family, Mahmood paused in tearful reflections as he acknowledged the support of his wife and some of his children present at the valedictory and swearing-in ceremony of new executives.
He was so emotional he could barely conclude his speech.
Usoro emerged the new NBA president, polling 4,509 votes to defeat Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN), who got 4,423 and Prof. Ernest Ojukwu (SAN), who got 3,313 votes.
