Tems appreciates Seyi Sodimu after backlash for not acknowledging him in Grammy speech

Two-time Grammy winner Tems has expressed gratitude to singer Seyi Sodimu for allowing her to sample his 1997 hit ‘Love Me Jeje’ in her award-winning track of the same title.

Tems, 29, won Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday but faced criticism for not mentioning Sodimu in her acceptance speech.

Folowing the backlash, she took to X on Monday to thank him for his support, describing Love Me Jeje as a “timeless classic.”

“I just want to thank the wonderful @seyimusic for his role in the support and clearing of his OG song Love Me Jeje. It’s brought the original song back to life for me, and I’m glad that it’s getting its flowers today. A timeless classic. I appreciate you so much. Thank you for your love and support,” she wrote.

Her song was nominated alongside ‘Tomorrow’ by Yemi Alade, ‘MMS’ by Asake featuring Wizkid, ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay and ‘Higher’ by Burna Boy.

Tems also secured nominations for Best Global Music Album with her debut Born in the Wild and Best R&B Song with ‘Burning.
