Andy Murray has become a father for the first time after his wife, Kim Sears, gave birth to a girl.
Murray’s management company says Sears gave birth on Sunday, a week after the Scot lost the Australian Open final.
“Andy and Kim had a daughter in the early hours of Sunday morning and the family are doing well,” his agent told BBC.
But no details have yet been revealed about the child’s name.
What this means is that all top four players in the men’s game are fathers with Murray now joining Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka.
Murray, 28, and Sears, 28, tied the knot in April 2015 at the 12th century Dunblane Cathedral in his hometown of Dunblane. The two dated on and off for about eight years before that.
The No.2-ranked Murray said before the Australian Open he would withdraw from the tournament and fly home if Sears went into labour.
“My child is more important to me, and my wife is more important to me, than a tennis match,” he said before the tournament.
“It’s a big change for me and my wife, but that’s the current priority and I’ll see after that.”
Murray’s next competitive games are due to be March 4-6 at the start of Britain’s Davis Cup defence against Japan in the central English city of Birmingham.
