Arsenal great, Thierry Henry, believes former Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho, will be a perfect ‘fit’ for Manchester United.
The Premier League legend thinks Mourinho would be the ideal man to replace Louis van Gaal, should the Dutchman be sacked in the coming weeks.
Mourinho has been touted to succeed the former Barcelona coach with reports suggesting he could even take a pay cut to land the United top job.
Henry, who is the Gunners all-time record goalscorer, also disputed the idea that Mourinho’s teams play dour football.
Henry told Sky Sports: “In his time at the beginning at Chelsea, if you remember, with (Arjen) Robben and (Damien) Duff on the sides, and (Eidur) Gudjohnsen in the middle, then Didier Drogba arriving after, they were a good team going forward.
“They weren’t conceding goals, they were hitting you on the break, but they were kind of exciting going forward.
“He also won the league in Spain outscoring Barcelona – the Barcelona of (Pep) Guardiola. So I think that he can be a good fit.”
By contrast, Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, claimed Mourinho’s managerial style isn’t suited to the ethos of the Old Trafford club.
He explained: “If I think of Man United in the past 50 or 60 years of what they’re about, winning trophies, Jose massively ticks that box.
“But bringing through young players? No.
“Playing exciting football, cultured football, going for every game? He doesn’t tick that box either.”
