Brazilian coach, Rafael Everton Lira, and two of his compatriots have quit Federation Cup champions, FC IfeanyiUbah.
The 27-year-old gaffer, who led the Anambra Warriors to their first domestic title, walked away after rejecting a lesser role with the club.
Everton felt he was let down by the club management who instead of improving his current deal, demoted him to assistant coach and head of youth development role.
The Nnewi-based side surprisingly opted to hire Japanese-American and former Accra Hearts of Oak manager, Kenichi Yatsuhashi, as new head coach on Wednesday.
However, Everton wasn’t alone, countrymen, Alberico Barbosa da Silva and Williams da Silva, who were remarkable last season for FCIU have also quit.
“As of today I am no longer the coach of FC IfeanyiUbah and I would like to thank the club for the opportunity to manage here,” the former Fluminense trainer wrote on his Facebook page.
“The club chairman offered me a position of assistant to the new coach, but I’m going home for vacation to sit down with my agent and family to be able to make the best decision for my career.
“I am grateful for the incredible results as coach of IfeanyiUbah to get the fourth position in the first division and manage to be the Nigerian Cup Champion.
“I would like to thank everyone and thank you for everything.”
