A fuel tanker explosion on Ibrahim Babangida Boulevard in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital on Tuesday has killed at least three persons.
The tanker was carrying about 33,000 litres of petrol at the time of the incident.
At least five vehicles and one motorcycle were burnt in the fire.
Commissioner for Special Duties Femi Ogunbanwo said a number of people suffered varying degrees of injuries and have been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
“Incidents like this nature will always happen and we are always on top of it in the procurement of equipment and even fire tenders,” he said.
The state and federal fire service were assisted by security operatives in bringing the fire under control.
