The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has said that its general overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye will not endorse any political candidate for the 2023 polls.
The church issued the disclaimer on Tuesday via social media amid reports that its leader met the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu last weekend at the church’s headquarters.
The reports claimed Adeboye and Tinubu met over the party’s decision to pick Muslims as presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
Although the church’s statement was silent on whether the meeting did hold, it said that Adeboye will not endorse any candidate.
“It has come to our notice that some new outlets are reporting that a meeting between Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God worldwide and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, was held a few days back at the Redemption Camp where our esteemed father in the Lord was said to have supported the preferred candidature of the party the former governor is a member of,” the statement said.
The church added that Adeboye being part of the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria “will not speak on behalf of Christians on issues regarding policies.”
“Pastor E.A. Adeboye and RCCG have not and will not endorse any candidate for the 2023 general elections in Nigeria,” it added.
