The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to protecting the constitutional rights of all Nigerians.
Idris stated this during his remarks at the fifth edition of the 2025 Ministerial Media Briefing Series, organised by the Ministry of Information and National Orientation in Abuja on Thursday.
He said Tinubu, as a true democrat, encourages constructive criticism and healthy opposition.
“I want to re-emphasise that President Tinubu, as a foremost democrat, is fully committed to protecting the constitutionally guaranteed rights of all Nigerians.
“He also encourages constructive criticism and healthy opposition because of their essential role in reinforcing and deepening our democratic framework,” Idris said.
The minister also expressed appreciation to the media for their dedication in covering the Ministerial Briefing Session.
According to him, today’s briefing takes place within a significant period, as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is marking its 70th anniversary. It is a milestone that reflects NUJ’s enduring commitment to press freedom and journalistic excellence.
“I hereby take the liberty to reaffirm the commitment of President Tinubu’s Administration to upholding press freedom and creating a conducive environment for media practice in Nigeria.
“This administration believes that a free and responsible press is essential for good governance, transparency, and national development,” Idris said.
On the ministerial briefing, Idris described the session as a vital opportunity for the ministers to update Nigerians on the progress and significant milestones achieved under their stewardship.
“Through this interactive forum, which is enhanced by multimedia channels, we reaffirm our commitment to transparency and public engagement by providing direct insights into the policies, initiatives, and reforms shaping the ministries’ objectives”.
He said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar and Interior Minister, Dr Tunji-Ojo, would take the stage to tell Nigerians of the remarkable innovation they brought towards repositioning their ministries in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Tinubu.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that since the launch of the 2025 Series of the Ministerial Media Briefing, seven ministers have presented their scorecards to Nigerians.
