Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu has condoled the family and friends of the rights activist Ariyo-Dare Atoye who died on Thursday.
Atoye, who was the executive director of Adopt A Goal Initiative, died at the age of 42.
According to reports, he died of lung cancer in Abuja.
Tweeting on Friday, Tinubu prayed that Atoye’s soul would find rest in spite of his “untimely passing”.
He wrote, “Today I commiserate with the family and friends of Ariyo Dare Atoye @AyoAristotle over his sad and untimely passing. I pray that Almighty God, in his infinite mercy, grant him eternal rest. And may He also grant comfort to his family and loved ones.”
Atoye played a significant role in the passage and signing of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2022 into law through a coalition called Civil Society Partners on Electoral Reform (CiSPER).
The activist had tweeted three days before his death, “My Health, I have done nothing to deserve all the prayers, calls, goodwill, generous donations, financial supports, efforts, love and affection. My God will do the needful.
“The day of Thanksgiving will come and we shall all celebrate. I’m not broken. I can’t be broken. Too late to be broken. I have God. Thank you, all.”
