National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has told the federal government to stop the planned increase in Value Added Tax (VAT).
Tinubu said this at the colloquium held in his honour to mark his 67th birthday at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.
The federal government had said it would increase VAT to 7.5 per cent in order to offset the demands of N30,000 new minimum wage on the nation’s treasury.
Tinubu said that instead of increasing VAT, the government should widen the tax net and ensure that more Nigerians pay tax.
The APC leader also said that increasing VAT would not contribute positively to the growth of ordinary men in the country.
He added that government officials in charge of generating revenue for the country must begin to think of other sources of revenue.
