The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) on Wednesday tweeted that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu will pick a Muslim like himself as running mate in the 2023 election.
The tweet followed an opinion by a tweep @Ssaasquatch that it may be difficult for Tinubu to select a running mate.
Responding to the Twitter user, the NNPC official handle posted: “He will run with a Muslim VP.”
The tweet immediately went viral with multiple retweets.
Earlier on Wednesday, Tinubu denied plans to pick a Muslim as running mate.
In a statement, the former Lagos governor said a viral text message sent to delegates at the Eagle Square during the presidential primary, alleging that he has decided to select a Muslim was false.
“We have been informed of a text message going around APC delegates at Eagles Square in Abuja purportedly from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu claiming that with his imminent victory at the APC presidential primary and emergence as the party’s presidential candidate, the APC leader has now decided on a Muslim-Muslim ticket. This is nothing but a lie. It has no basis whatsoever,” the statement said.
