Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, a nephew of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has joined the race for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikeja Constituency 01 seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), according to a report by gazellenews.com.
Kasunmu is the son of Tinubu’s late sister, Alhaja Arafat Abiodun Kasunmu.
The deceased was the proprietor of Modupe Ayoade Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, located in the highbrow Magodo neighbourhood in Lagos.
She was the only daughter of Tinubu’s mother, the late Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji.
Tinubu was Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.
The Assembly seat Kasunmu wishes to contest for is currently occupied by the Lagos House of Assembly Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, who is aspiring to contest the 2015 governorship election on the APC platform.
A resident of Ikeja Local Government Area for more than a decade, Kasunmu is quoted to have said: “In Ikeja, I have single-handedly sponsored at least 20 less privileged children to the state children’s Christmas party and other general kiddies activities over the last five years. During election periods, I always play significant roles by virtue of being the President of the defunct Democrats Group of Nigeria now renamed Revive Active Democracy Coalition of Nigeria, (RADCON).
“Notable occasions where my impacts were felt include the 2007 elections that brought in Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and his re-election in 2011. So politics has always been a part of me.
“Asides being politically inclined, I have participated in various youth programmes aimed at the development of the youth in terms of cognitive and reasoning.”
If elected, Kasunmu will join the league of relatives of the former Lagos governor holding elective offices.
Tinubu’s wife is the incumbent Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly. His son-in-law, Oyetunde Oladimeji-Ojo, represents Ijero/Efon Ekiti West in the House of Representatives while his first daughter, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, succeeded Mogaji as Iyaloja.
Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos Assembly, Lola Fibisola Akande, is Tinubu’s wife’s sister. She yearns to go to the House of Representatives come 2015 to replace James Abiodun Faleke who is currently occupying the Ikeja Federal Constituency seat.
