Super Eagles caretaker coach, Salisu Yusuf, has issued fresh threats to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about the national team job.
The three-time African champions have been without a substantive manager since Sunday Oliseh threw in the towel in February.
Salisu, 54, who guided Nigeria to two international friendly victories against Mali and Luxembourg in May, has been tipped by many to be named as full-time coach.
But a recent move by the NFF who are reported to be in negotiation with three unknown Serbian coaches, has prompted the former El Kanemi boss to distance himself from any assistant role.
In the past one year, Salisu has assisted Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh and Samson Siasia in the Super Eagles.
Prior to this, the former Ranchers Bees midfielder had worked twice with Siasia – first during the former’s first spell with the Eagles then at 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.
“I am through with assisting any coach because I believe I can do the job now after assisting Keshi, Oliseh and Siasia,” a disappointed Salisu told AfricanFootball.
The tactician explained that he deserves a shot at the head coach job considering his experience with the team.
“I have a good idea of the country’s players both at home and abroad,” he added.
“And I believe with a group of willing experienced players and youngsters we can go on to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.”
