World record holder in 100m hurdles Tobi Amusan visited her alma mater, Our Lady Of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State on Friday.
She was received with a guard of honour starting from the school’s gate. “Stand up for the champion,” they sang.
Amusan, dressed in white, waved at them in excitement.
After Amusan set a world record and won gold at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA in July, some students of the school were filmed holding a picture of her and singing the national anthem.
On Friday, the students could not contain their excitement seeing a world record holder who was once like them.
It was indeed a homecoming for Amusan to Ijebu-Ode, her place of birth, as she proudly recited the school anthem. Amusan also joined a group of dancers on the dancefloor.
The 25-year-old announced a donation of N1m and was inducted into the school’s hall of fame.
