Media personality Toke Makinwa has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Abisola Kola-Daisi, whom she fondly referred to as her “cousin.”
Kola-Daisi, the eldest daughter of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, died in the United Kingdom last Thursday morning.
Sharing videos and pictures of their moments together on Instagram on Sunday, Toke penned an emotional tribute, saying, “The world is less colorful without you in it…. Abisola, omo ologo 5g (Child of grace). The one who loved her God, loved her family fiercely, and loved her friends intimately.”
She described Biola as someone with a generous spirit, recalling, “Abisola, the one who helped people she didn’t even know. She can sell her most precious property to support when called on, if you admired anything on her, no matter what value it held, she’ll ask if you wanted it and boom, she’s given it out. So selfless.”
Toke reminisced about their bond, saying, “Abi Hollywood. Our friendship started and we had the best times. I started chasing my career so much I missed out on a lot of things, we drifted apart naturally and were silently mad at each other for it.
“This went on for years, we missed out on so much in those years but God would bring us back together again.”
She recounted their reconciliation, sharing, “Three years ago while I was going through an unpleasant situation, she calls me on the phone and the first thing I heard was ‘Hi, this is AbiKd,’ in her American accent o. Next thing—’won so pe o sad, ki lo mu e sad?’ We burst out laughing and decided to go to dinner on the spot. So us. ”
Reflecting on their deep connection, she added, “We spent the best four hours making up, being honest, apologizing for the years (we were so alike), we spoke our truths, and we decided we were too close to be called friends. We named ourselves cousins, and that’s how the term ‘cousin mi’ was born.”
Toke concluded her tribute with a heartfelt farewell: “Cousin mi, I will never forget you, words are not enough to describe our bond.
“My heart aches terribly, but my eyes are on to Jesus, I surrender the pain to you, Lord. You’ve transitioned from here, but your impact, the memories, and the love will linger on forever. Till we dance again, Sun re o.”
