Born again Nollywood actress and singer, Tonto Dikeh, has apologised for hurtful statements she made about fellow actress, Mercy Johnson, after the latter gave birth to her first child, Purity, in 2013.
A then wild and unmarried Tonto attacked Mercy for returning to acting shortly after her daughter was born, saying some Nollywood brides “married horribly”.
Without mentioning the Dear Mama star’s name, the Dirty Secret actress wrote on Twitter “Wen n if I give birth,God plz provide mii wit a husband dat can provide 4uz,Not 1 dat wld send mii bck to actin 2monthz after I born 2Huzzle”.
Now with an 11-month-old son of her own, the actress has publicly apologised for the statement.
“Ever since I had my baby I have been reminded constantly about an ill statement I made about one of your kids a very long time ago,” Tonto wrote in an Instagram post on Friday morning.
“I want to use this media to say I am so sorry, I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart.
“I had no right to say what I did; I totally disgraced myself with that.”
It is however noteworthy that the actress is not sure about the gender of the child for which she criticised her colleague’s decision to go back to work.
“I am sorry MJ, I am sorry to your lil’ girl or boy,” she wrote.
“Take your time with the process of forgiving my ill mannered words to your infant but pls eventually do,” the actress who says she is amending all her wrongs in 2017 added.
Mercy has since given birth to two more children – Henry (2014) and Angel (2015) – and has appeared in a couple of movies after delivery.
Tonto, who was delivered of baby boy, Andre, in February 2016, has not featured in any movie since her August 2015 marriage to Oladunni Churchill.
