Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Tony Elumelu, has joined the social media #blackouttuesday trend to raise awareness against vices ravaging the world.
Mr Elumelu, a father of seven, in a tweet on Tuesday described the recent events in Nigeria as ‘depressing’.
“As an African and a Dad, the recent events in Nigeria and across the world have been depressing,” wrote the philanthropist.
“Today, we take a stand and call for Peace and Justice!”
The killing of a 17-year-old Tina Ezekwe by a policeman in Lagos and the rape and murder of a 22-year-old, Uwa Omozuwa, in Benin, Edo State have stirred calls across the country for justice and better treatment for women.
Two policemen have been arrested in connection with Ms Ezekwe’s death while a suspect is in police custody over Ms Omozuwa’s death.
