Musicians Eddy Remedy and Tony Tetuila have tackled their former Remedies group member Eedris Abdulkareem over several comments the latter made regarding their split.
Recall that Eedris had in a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast claimed that he and Eddy were the original members of the band and only accepted Tony Tetuila into the group out of pity after meeting him at a show in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The 50-year-old also claimed that the group split after Eddy became greedy and told him that they should no longer share their music revenue equally with Tony.
However, speaking in a recent interview with Daddy Freeze, Eddy Remedy said Tony did not join the group in Ilorin but in his (Eddy’s) apartment in Lagos where Eedris brought Tony to meet him.
Eddy said he invited Eedris to join the group and he came along with Tony and he later discovered that Eedris collected some money from his parents with the promise of making their son a star.
The musician said because of Abdulkareem’s greed, there were rumours back then that Tetuila’s parents were the ones sponsoring the group whereas he was the sole sponsor of the group.
Speaking with Daddy Freeze, Tony on his part, said his ex-bandmates connived to kick him out of the group despite his mum being the initial sponsor of the trio.
The 51-year-old said his colleagues Daddy Showkey and Blackface’s encouragement and support helped him to build a solo career.
“Eedris connived with Eddy and kicked me out of The Remedies despite the fact that it was my mum who brought the money that was used to sponsor the group in the beginning. I was so heartbroken and shattered. It was Daddy Showkey who encouraged me and told me that I could do it alone.
“Blackface was another person who helped me. He brought me close and taught me how I could write my own songs. Blackface is a very great guy. I’d never forget the role he played in my career.
“It’s same Eedris that’s coming out to lie that he made sacrifices for the [Nigerian music] industry,” he said.
In his defence, Eddy claimed that the money Eedris Abdulkareem collected from Tony Tetuila’s mum was not used in sponsoring the group.
He claimed that he was not aware of the agreement until the rumour broke out.
Eddy said he used the $5,000 his parents gave him after completing his tertiary education to fund the group.
