As the year 2017 gradually comes to an end, we take a look at six of the great songs that made a great impact on the Nigerian pop scene.
- Wo – Olamide
Olamide outdid himself with this street anthem which soared to the top immediately after its release.
Even Wizkid, who has proved himself a great artiste locally and internationally, confessed that it is one of his favourite songs.
Olamide went back to his roots as he shot the video to the song in the Ladi-Lak axis of Bariga, Lagos.
The song gave birth to the #Wochallenge, a dancing competition with a N1million reward.
‘Wo’ was produced by Young John.
- If – Davido
Davido has arguably defined himself as not just a talented act but also a hardworking one.
‘If’ is currently one of Nigeria’s biggest songs at the moment.
Davido, 25, did great in 2017 and has promised to do better in 2018.
- Yeba – Kiss Daniel
The former G-Worldwide Entertainment act also known for his comedy skills took his fans back to the 90s when the dance steps were not about jumping but rather slowly grooving to the music.
Yeba is catchy highlife song, which well executed lyrically by Kiss Daniel with an infusion of comedy.
- Juice – YCee
Juice, by Tinny Entertainment artiste, YCee, has a fun beat and rhythm you always want to move to.
Features singer and music producer, Maleek Berry, the song is from Ycee’s The First Wave extended play (EP) and has received a large acceptance from fans.
- All Over – Tiwa Savage
Mother-of-one, Tiwa Savage, has refused to be relegated in spite of stiff competition from the likes of Seyi Shay, Simi and Yemi Alade.
‘All Over’ which was released in in April has refused to fade out has fans still groove to it, which is a result of the Tiwa’s great work.
- Maradona – Niniola
Nigerian singer, Niniola Apata, well known for her house music style rose to recognition in 2013 after finishing as third runner-up in the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa.
Niniola has one of the best singles in 2017 in ‘Maradona’ which she released in the first half of the year but is still very relevant to date.
