Actress Toyin Abraham’s Alakada: Bad and Boujee has crossed the N500 million mark at the box office, securing its place as the fifth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
FilmOne, the movie’s distributor, made the announcement on Instagram on Friday, sharing a celebratory poster on Instagram.
“Alakada: Bad and Boujee smashes records with ₦500M at the box office, cementing its place as the 5th highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time! ,” the company wrote.
Praising Toyin Abraham’s accomplishment, FilmOne added, “The certified box office queen has done it again! Who else can relate to this Bad and Boujee success?
”
Toyin also took to Instagram to express her gratitude, writing, “Grateful for every step of this journey! From day one, I’ve always pushed myself to surpass my last achievement, and today, we’ve hit N500M at the box office, making this the 5th highest-grossing movie of all time!
“Every time I step into the cinemas, I strive to do better than before, to break boundaries and set new standards. I compete against my last achievement always. Beating past records is the goal! This record stands to be broken in my next outing by God’s grace. This is just the beginning, and I’m beyond thankful to all my supporters who made this possible. We keep rising!”
Before Toyin’s milestone, Wunmi Toriola’s Queen Lateefah held the fifth position with N269,534,042.
The top four spots remain dominated by Funke Akindele’s films: Everybody Loves Jenifa (2024) at N1,882,553,548, A Tribe Called Judah (2023) at N1,404,187,806, Battle on Buka Street (2022) at N668,423,056 and Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020) at N636,129,120.
Directed by Adebayo Tijani and written by Toyin Abraham, Alakada: Bad and Boujee was released in cinemas on March 29, 2024, continuing the Alakada franchise with a fresh take on social media fame and the struggles of maintaining an extravagant image.
The comedy-drama follows Yetunde (Toyin Abraham), a self-proclaimed influencer who, alongside her friends Rebecca (Bimbo Ademoye) and Abebi (Bimpe Oyebade), creates a fake glamorous lifestyle online to fit into high society. However, her obsession with validation soon leads to a series of chaotic and hilarious consequences.
The film also features an ensemble cast including Odunlade Adekola, Ini Edo, Bimbo Akintola, Ronke Odusanya, Okusanya Lolade, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, IK Ogbonna, and Chimezie Imo, further cementing its appeal to audiences.
