Toyin Abraham’s ex-lover Seun Egbegbe recounts near-death experience in jail

Filmmaker and producer Seun Egbegbe, who was once in a relationship with actress Toyin Abraham, has opened up about his struggle with depression and near-death experience during his time in jail.

The film producer on a recent podcast with actress Biola Adebayo, shared the details of his imprisonment. He explained that although he faced 44 charges his lawyer successfully dismissed all but one, leading to his incarceration.

Egbegbe recalled that just weeks after entering jail, he was overwhelmed by depression which nearly cost him his life.

He described his initial days in prison as a nightmare, where he prayed for survival.

“I told God that if you truly exist, then I must leave here alive,” he said. “People died every day in that prison.”

Egbegbe also recounted the grim reality of the “welcome cell,” a place for new inmates. He claimed that at least two corpses could be found each morning if twenty people were brought in the previous day.

Despite the horrors he faced, he expressed gratitude toward the Redeemed Christian Church of God members which regularly visited the inmates with food.

He also pledged to visit prisons across the country to support inmates, stating that jail is a great equaliser.

During his time in prison, he encountered notable figures, including former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and Lagos-Dubai socialite Mompha.

Seun Egbegbe’s interview also highlighted his newly found faith in Christ, marking a shift in his life following his release from prison.
