The Lagos State government has warned that traffic offenders risk three years imprisonment.
The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Adeniji Kazeem said in a statement on Tuesday by his spokesperson Kayode Oyekanmi that violators of the law risk between one and three years’ imprisonment and forfeiture of their vehicles to the government.
Mr Kazeem said the Ministry of Justice through the mobile courts would intensify efforts to prosecute the lawlessness of unruly motorists to restore sanity on Lagos roads.
“Lagos State Government remains committed to enforcement of Law and Order to make living in the State an enjoyable and stress-free experience,” Kazeem said.
The Attorney General listed various traffic violations such as disobeying traffic control personnel and assault on their person, parking on yellow line, use of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route by unauthorised vehicle, among others as offences that would be strictly prosecuted.
This development according to Kazeem is in line with the directive given by governor of the state Akinwunmi Ambode on efforts of the government to curb the lawlessness of some motorists.
