A Federal High Court in Abuja could not continue hearing the case of Chioma Okoli, charged with allegations bordering on her online commentary on Erisco Foods Limited’s tomato paste, on Thursday as the judge was unavailable.
The matter could not proceed because the trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, went on an official assignment.
The trial was subsequently fixed for June 19 following agreement by counsels.
Okoli was on May 31 admitted to N5 million bail with two sureties after spending few days in a correctional centre following her arraignment on two counts on May 28.
The Inspector-General of Police had filed a two-count charge against Okoli, Happiness Obas and Don Kashking, both said to be at large, on alleged conspiracy to send a message on Facebook to instigate people against Erisco Foods Limited.
According to the charge, the defendants knew the said “information to be false and with intent to cause annoyance, inconvenience danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to Erisco Foods Limited, the management and members of the family.”
Okoli pleaded not guilty to the charges.
