An Oyo State High Court sitting at Ring Road, Ibadan, has adjourned the trial of Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary, to March 26.
Justice Bayo Taiwo made the decision on Monday after the defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, sent a letter explaining his absence due to ill health.
Auxiliary, a former chairman of the Oyo State Park Management System, is facing a 17-count charge, including armed robbery, murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms. The charges stem from an alleged incident at the Ikolaba residence of Governor Seyi Makinde on May 29, 2023.
During the resumed hearing, State Counsel Olatunji Adeoye informed the court of the letter from Ojo, leading to the adjournment for further hearing.
The charge sheet accuses Lamidi of illegal possession of one AK-47 assault rifle and two SMG rifles with magazines. The offences are said to contravene Section 1(2)(a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, CAP RII, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Lamidi has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The case continues on March 26.
