Head of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC) Pastor Tunde Bakare donated N250 million to charity on his 70th birthday, celebrated on November 11, 2024.
This donation, presented by his church members, took place at an event held at the CGCC headquarters in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.
The occasion included the launch of Bakare’s autobiography, The Last but Definitely not the Least, and featured worship sessions in gratitude to God.
Bakare expressed gratitude to the congregation for the gesture, emphasising the importance of contributing to the nation’s welfare rather than focusing on personal gain.
He pledged to use the funds to support the needy, ensuring that the generosity shown to him would continue to benefit others. He spoke on the duty of shepherds to care for their flock, stating that generosity is key to advancing the gospel.
“As a shepherd, it is your duty to feed the flock so they will not lack and become resentful of the good news of salvation.
“I will employ God’s wisdom and channel the N250 million to the needy, that way the seed you have shown in me today will continue to multiple to God’s glory,” he said.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised Bakare as a father figure and role model for his advocacy, patriotism and positive societal influence.
He described Bakare as a steadfast nationalist and prayed for his continued health and strength.
The event attracted prominent figures, including secretary to the government of the federation Sen. George Akume (representing President Bola Tinubu), Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and former governors Gbenga Daniel, Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun and Nasir El-Rufai. Other notable attendees included Joe Odumakin, Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo and GTBank co-founder Fola Adeola.
